Typography Task 3: Type Design and Communication
Typography - Type Design and Communication
I chose thicker fonts rather than thin ones so that the text would stand out.
3. FEEDBACK
Week 9
Task 3 Review and Confirmation
Feedback:
For this
assignment, we had to create our own original font based on the typeface
we selected. I presented three font designs to my lecturer, and we were
able to narrow it down to one. Since the hand-drawn font has now been
finalized, I will begin creating the digital version of the selected
design.
Week10
Digitizing the font I created myself
Feedback:
Transfer my font into FontLab following the steps below.
Week11
Check to my fonts
Feedback:
I had only created a limited set of letters, and I realized that I needed to create all the letters from A to Z for use in my poster.
Week 12
Poster Creation
Feedback:
It was explained that I need to create my own original font and include it in my portfolio.
Week13.14
Poster check and e-portfolio review
Feedback:
I received advice on adjusting the margins text on the poster.
REFLECTION
In this assignment, I learned about the structure of letters and created my own original font. First, I selected one reference font and recreated it by hand in an analog process. Using this as a reference, I then began developing my own font. I used Janson Text LT Std and Bodoni as references and created three original font designs. After that, I narrowed them down to one and digitally created both uppercase and lowercase letters.
I then edited and refined my font using FontLab until it was fully developed. At this stage, I adjusted the spacing and size of the letters when typing.
Finally, I created a poster using my original font, focusing on a balanced design that clearly showcases the typeface. Since this was my first time creating an original font, I encountered many difficulties throughout the process, from creation to adjustment. However, through repeated fine-tuning and trial and error, I was able to gradually bring the design closer to completion.
4. FURTHER READING
This content primarily discusses typographic systems.
The key points include the development of design skills and the enhancement of visual readability. It also provides insight into visual movement and non-linear arrangements that go beyond traditional grids.
Furthermore, it emphasizes that typography should not be approached solely in terms of line spacing, letter spacing, or font selection, but should be understood as a design practice based on spatial relationships, structure, and organizational principles.
