5. FEEDBACK

week1
At the beginning, the lecturer explained the module and its rules, and then gave us an assignment to create a total of 100 designs using four words, as well as to prepare
an e-portfolio.

Feedback:

It is important to have a clear understanding of the rules and the lessons.

week2

Completed 100 design variations and converted the designed letters from analog to digital format.

Feedback:

Express the design in a way that matches the character of the letters.

week3

I had my draft fonts checked and selected the better ones based on the feedback.

Feedback:

Make the letter cuts more drastic, and ensure the distortions are smoother.

Week 4
Create a text format by selecting from the 10 chosen fonts.

Feedback:
I was advised to check the font size, overall balance, and whether it looks too ordinary.

Week 5
Select from the 10 fonts and create Text Format 2 (prototype).

Feedback:
I received approval for the Task 1 text format.
For Task 2, I was instructed to make both pages more balanced.

Week 6
Make changes and revisions to Task 2.

Feedback:
I received approval for Task 2 after making minor design adjustments.

Week7

About Task2

Feedback:

Since I received approval for both Task 1 and Task 2, I uploaded the work I created for them to my e-portfolio.

Week8

Confirmation of Task 2 and explanation of Task 3

Feedback:

First, we were instructed to create a design in Adobe Illustrator based on the letters we chose, and then draw the letters on A4 graph paper using a marker pen with a thickness of 3.0 or more.

Week 9

Task 3 Review and Confirmation
Feedback:
For this assignment, we had to create our own original font based on the typeface we selected. I presented three font designs to my lecturer, and we were able to narrow it down to one. Since the hand-drawn font has now been finalized, I will begin creating the digital version of the selected design.

Week10

Digitizing the font I created myself

Feedback:

Transfer my font into FontLab following the steps below.

Week11

Check to my fonts

Feedback:

I had only created a limited set of letters, and I realized that I needed to create all the letters from A to Z for use in my poster.

Week 12

Poster Creation

Feedback:

It was explained that I need to create my own original font and include it in my portfolio.

Week13.14

Poster check and e-portfolio review

Feedback:

I received advice on adjusting the margins text on the poster.

6. REFLECTION

From Task 1 to Task 3, I watched many videos and learned about various font designs and different ways of visual perception.

The effects change depending on the steps and the spacing between letters, and when the balance is good, it becomes eye-catching and easy to read.

In Task 1, I learned the basics of design.
In Task 2, I learned about balance and layout.
In Task 3, I created my own font based on a basic typeface.

I realized once again that typography knowledge and skills are used in many places, such as poster design and websites. Through this class, I was able to gain very valuable experience and skills.

7. FURTHER READING

This content mainly focuses on the idea that design should be based on principles, rather than trends or personal preferences.

One of the key points is that design is not decoration, but an intellectual act aimed at communicating meaning clearly. Among these principles, simplicity, order, and consistency are especially important. By avoiding decoration that goes beyond the necessary information, the intended message becomes clearer and the essence of the design is revealed. Furthermore, emphasizing rules such as grids, alignment, proportion, and consistency gives viewers a sense of stability and trust.

By achieving these elements, typography becomes more effective and results in better design. Designers also have the responsibility to uphold and achieve these principles.
