I created the work by cutting and pasting materials such as magazine pages, newspapers, and colored paper.
For Pre-composition #1 and #2, I arranged the layout so that the elements fit together in a balanced way. However, although balance is important, the arrangement was limited to horizontal and vertical placement, so it lacked a sense of creativity.
In Pre-composition #3, I applied the advice from my lecturer by placing elements at diagonal angles and adding more colors instead of only using two monotone shades, which helped to make the composition more vibrant.
In the Final Design, I placed the elements horizontally to maintain good balance, positioned the key focal point in the center, and added triangular divisions in the corners to create a neat, well-organized appearance. I also distributed the colored elements in different areas so that similar colors would not cluster together.
By not only arranging elements neatly but also incorporating negative space and combining large, medium, and small items, I was able to achieve better balance and explore a wider variety of layout possibilities. In addition, adjusting colors digitally changed the overall impression and expanded the range of design expressions. Furthermore, through the 1B assignment, I learned image processing and editing techniques, which enabled me to make more detailed edits and finer adjustments.
<Self-reflection>
In the 1B assignment, we were required to edit our own photographs. However, the photo shoot did not go as planned, and although I tried editing it in my own way, the shadows did not work well and the blur looked slightly unnatural due to the angle. To improve this, I realized that taking the photo from a slightly lower angle and in a location with strong natural light would help prevent the edited image from looking unnatural. Next time, I would like to pay closer attention to these aspects when editing.
3. REFLECTION
In this assignment, the main focus was on layout design and the basics of image editing. I have always enjoyed taking photographs, so I was confident in composition and design. However, by paying attention to details I had not previously noticed and making improvements, I was able to create a better final piece. In addition, through image editing, I learned about color changes by using filters and adjustments.
